Flowers

Flowers and herbs have symbolized love and beauty since the beginning of time. They have been the secret language of lovers throughout the ages and continue to be a significant part of the wedding tradition. Floral designers create unique pieces of art using different types of flowers (real or silk) and intricate construction. These specialists make the bouquets for the bridesmaids and the bride. They design the matching boutonnieres and corsages for the rest of the bridal party and construct floral centerpieces for your entire venue.

Selecting the right florist is an important part of your wedding planning. Ask for referrals; visit the specialists and solicit their expert advice. They will inform about the various options that are available to suit your budget and your needs. They will tell you which flowers are in season and which type of flowers is best for your wedding style. For example, some flowers are better for a modern arrangement while others suit a more classical style. Consult the experts about the best colour scheme for your venue and the most favorable style and size of flowers. Your bouquets and all the décor flowers must coordinate.

Your bridal bouquet complements your wedding dress. It comes in various styles: the nosegays, cascading bouquets, or pomander styles. You can also carry a simple bunch of flowers that have special meaning for you. Whatever you do, bring out your personal style. Walk down the aisle confidently, with your shoulders back; hold the bouquet as low as possible in front of your torso.

The flowers you choose for your whole wedding, from the ceremony to the reception, will probably follow the same colour scheme. Many couples still prefer the classic white flowers while others are opting for colourful blooms. The once muted shades of pink or peach have been replaced with vibrant combinations of purple and orange. Interesting colour pairings not only make spectacular centerpieces, they look great in pictures too.

The eco-friendly choice…going green

We are going back to the basics, back to the herbs and spices once used by our ancestors when proclaiming their love. As many couples look for eco-friendly solutions to their wedding needs, florists are creating interesting arrangements using herbs such as mint or sage and fruits like apples or pears. Fresh produce adds new dimension and intriguing texture. Going green means your flowers are not only fresh and beautiful, they make stunning table arrangements. Using recycled materials, various grasses, branches, and a mixture of herbs and spices, floral experts are able to bring out the personality of each couple. They create unique arrangements with your specifications.

You can adorn your tables with simple red roses in recyclable glass vases. Real or silk flowers can be arranged in colourful flower pots; they can be surrounded by votives or tea lights to add a special glow to your venue. Interesting topiaries are magnificent and versatile. These centerpieces can be trimmed to the height that you want and sculpted in a design unique to your wedding. Tailor your flowers to the theme of your nuptials. Consider potted plants and herbs as yet another whimsical choice. They are great for an outdoor wedding or a theme wedding.

Your ‘green’ theme will not only impress your guests, it will become the talk of the table. You can incorporate a game or activity that will enable one lucky guest from each table to keep this wonderful souvenir of your wedding for years to come.
